All Day Long
A friend of mine who came to faith as a young adult told me that every Sunday all the churches are mystically joined in unity. That was around 1977 and he was and elder in the small "charismatic" congregation I was part of. He is now a member of an Orthodox congregation. At the time he told me that I was impressed that he was right. But today I have a slightly different viewpoint.
Around 1989 attending a "pentecostal" congregation I learned a song sung in the Sunday worship services.
Ain't it grand to be a Christian, ain't it grand.
Ain't it grand to be a Christian, ain't it grand.
On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
Friday, Saturday and all day Sunday
Ain't it grand to be a Christian, ain't it grand.
It was song with great joy. But I was disturbed by it. All day Sunday? Not all day Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday and Saturday?
So my question now is this: are all the different church congregations and denominations mystically joined only on Sunday? Is Sunday the only day that I'm a Christian all day long?
“For now we see in a mirror, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know fully even as also I was fully known. But now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love.” (1Co 13:12-13, ASV)
