apples and such...

One has to wonder what kind of world we might have without misogyny, misandry and misogamy. Sin in human flesh began in the first married couple! It was not something God did not anticipate. He subjected us to frustration in hope! For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. (Romans 8:20-21)

We are NOT abandoned by God. That would have resulted in our destruction, even Adam and Eve’s destruction. We have been subjected to vanity. Satan is the father of vanity and he brought vanity into the Garden. Satan is the original sinner, the father, he is the SOURCE of the lie, and he approached Eve with the lie, and she was deceived by it. As much self effacing humility as I have heard from men admitting they are sinners (saved by the grace of the Messiah), I have not heard so much from women admitting their first mom was deceived. Was Eve’s eating the fruit sin? Was it a lesser or greater sin than Adam’s sin? It is said Adam ate willingly, that he was not deceived. Adam’s sin may have been the sin that completed the fall, but Eve seems to have been used to get us on the slippery slope! Was her eating sin?


16  To the woman he said,  “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for {Or against} your husband, and he shall rule over you.” 17 And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you;  in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life 18  thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. 19  By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” ESV Genesis 3

What might have happened if Adam had NOT listened to Eve? Would God have cast Eve out alone? Hypotheticals are not profitable except perhaps to draw attention to the reality we are faced with. We inherit the sin nature because the MAN Adam’s sin. But does the WOMAN Eve bear any guilt? Was Adam altogether to blame? As I read the scriptures it is really reading into the narrative to say Adam blamed Eve for his actions. Adam said  “The woman you gave to be with me — she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate." (Gen 3:12)
It might be seen that Adam was blaming God. “this woman YOU GAVE me she GAVE me...” Could it be seen in that light also? What is plain is that Adam told the truth! God did give him Eve, and Eve did give him the fruit and he did eat. For that there were consequences for Adam and men:  “the ground cursed on your account; you will work hard to eat from it as long as you live. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat field plants. You will eat bread by the sweat of your forehead till you return to the ground” Genesis 3:17-19

Also [I desire] that women should adorn themselves modestly and appropriately and sensibly in seemly apparel, not with [elaborate] hair arrangement or gold or pearls or expensive clothing, But by doing good deeds (deeds in themselves good and for the good and advantage of those contacted by them), as befits women who profess reverential fear for and devotion to God. Let a woman learn in quietness, in entire submissiveness. I allow no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to remain in quietness and keep silence [in religious assemblies]. For Adam was first formed, then Eve; [Gen. 2:7, 21, 22.] And it was not Adam who was deceived, but [the] woman who was deceived and deluded and fell into transgression. [Gen. 3:1-6.] Nevertheless [the sentence put upon women of pain in motherhood does not hinder their souls' salvation, and] they will be saved [eternally] if they continue in faith and love and holiness with self-control, [saved indeed] through the Childbearing or by the birth of the divine Child.  (1Ti 2:9-15)


What might have happened if Abram had not listened to Sarai? Because he did Ishmael was born. And the Angel of the Lord continued, See now, you are with child and shall bear a son, and shall call his name Ishmael [God hears], because the Lord has heard and paid attention to your affliction. And he [Ishmael] will be as a wild ass among men; his hand will be against every man and every man's hand against him, and he will live to the east and on the borders of all his kinsmen. (Gen 16:11-12) Can we say that Sarai had no role in the birth of a father of many who became the enemies of Israel?

What might have happened if Jacob had not listened to his mother Rebekah? Now Esau had already given away his birthright for a bowl of stew, and it was Jacob who cunningly took advantage of his brother’s vanity. When Isaac was about to bless Esau, Rebekah stepped in and was the cunning one to orchestrate Jacob’s second “promotion.” Can we say that Rebekah had no role in the birth of a father of many who became the enemies of Israel?

Can it be that in His wisdom and will God really did make women weaker vessels? Could God have been just in the consequences He ordained after Adam ate the fruit, consequences for men AND for women? Is it not unseemly, unbecoming, and even indecent for women to exercise authority over men, particularly their own husbands?

What if Eve had not listened to the serpent? Can it be that because she did that the role of women was changed, even diminished in that her husband would now rule over her? Could the new relationship ordained by God require that she be under her husband’s authority? 


If Lot’s wife had not looked back?
If Esther had not listened to Mordecai?

33  When we worship the right way, God doesn’t stir us up into confusion; he brings us into harmony. This goes for all the churches—no exceptions.
33  For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,
33  for God is not a God of unruliness but of shalom. As in all the congregations of God's people,

34   Wives must not disrupt worship, talking when they should be listening,
34   the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says.
34 let the wives remain silent when the congregation meets; they are certainly not permitted to speak out. Rather, let them remain subordinate, as also the Torah says;

35  asking questions that could more appropriately be asked of their husbands at home. God’s Book of the law guides our manners and customs here. Wives have no license to use the time of worship for unwarranted speaking.
35  If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.
35  and if there is something they want to know, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for a woman to speak out in a congregational meeting.

36   Do you—both women and men—imagine that you’re a sacred oracle determining what’s right and wrong? Do you think everything revolves around you?
