Intro: Going deeper in the truth of what God has already given as Children of God.
1 John 1:12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the authority (right) to become children of God.
2 Peter 1:3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
I want you to know: The devil is defeated.
"You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
who gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,
1 John 3:8
the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.
Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,
who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
"Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.
When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.
The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
Isn’t it interesting that the bible actually records very little about the devil.. about where he came from, etc… This shouldn’t surprise us since the bible is not about the devil but about God and his Children.
Lets talk about the truth about what we are fighting against…
Most warfare you will fight is between your ears.. It is in the realm of thoughts and imaginations..
2 For 10:3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Eph 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Isaiah 14 - king of Babylon (John Calvin and Martin Luther)
Ezekiel 28 - king of Tyre
Luke 10:18 fall from heaven- wrong time for the garden.
1. The devil.
• Our thoughts
• Others thoughts
What do we know about the devil?
Who is the devil: he tempts, deceives, accusation, all using words.
1. He is the accuser of the brethren - Rev 12:10
2. He’s a liar
• John 8:44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
3. He tempts people?
• 2 Cor 12:3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.
. James 1:14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed
2. He seems to be against God’s people not against God himself..
• In the story of Job, God had all the authority…
• In the resurrection of Jesus all Authority was given to Jesus, not the devil.
The devil is a defeated foe. He is a foe, but a defeated one
Col 2:15 When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.
Light does not submit to darkness. Darkness is always at the mercy of light.
Penn Clark -
For years, I have traveled to some of the darkest places on Earth, yet I have never spent a minute praying against the devil beforehand. Neither have I felt led to learn the names of the demons over the cities where I have worked. I have never felt it was necessary to learn the history of all the evil that has taken place in an area as requisite for a move of God to occur. I have never laid hands on the walls of our meeting places in order to prevent the devil from disturbing our meetings. Neither have I ever waved a certain colored banner to stop the devil or to invite the Holy Spirit to begin to work. I don’t believe in this kind of spiritual warfare, as it is so often called. Instead, I believe in walking in warfare.
What is walking in warfare? By this I mean that, if we walk in the name of Jesus, darkness cannot stop us any more than it could stop Him. To me, the name of Jesus means walking in His character and His authority, doing what He would do, the way He would do it, for the reasons He did it.
‘During a time when I felt particularly embattled in my ministry, I decided to study what Jesus taught and demonstrated in terms of personal spiritual warfare. I took a paperback edition of the Bible and, with an orange highlighter, began to mark the occasions when Jesus was in some form of spiritual conflict.
My criteria for defining warfare was simply marking out every time the enemy tried to hurt or hinder Jesus from fulfilling His purpose. I marked out every time His life was threatened or He was assaulted with physical violence, false accusation, slander, betrayal, plotting, traps and trickery, deceit, gossip, condemnation, intimidation, name-calling, and other forms of rejection. He also experienced what is now called “spiritual abuse” by the hands of those who were in authority. These are all the same tools the enemy uses against us today.
Once I completed the mark-up, I fanned through the four gospels with my thumb and was amazed to see how orange it was. Jesus was in constant conflict from conception to the cross.
I began to see a pattern of how the devil preferred to use those who were closest to Jesus in an effort to hurt and hinder Him. For example, he used Judas Iscariot because of his proximity to Jesus. Then, there was Peter. One minute he was speaking revelation by the Spirit and the next minute he was being used by the enemy to prevent Jesus from fulfilling His purpose.
None of us like the idea that the enemy can momentarily use those who are closest to us in order to speak aloud those things that he wants spoken, often hurting and hindering us. The fact is, the enemy wants to use the closest warm body to us to keep us from doing the will of God. He could use a family member, a friend, a pastor, or a board member, anyone who is supportive one minute and then can be pitted against us the next. He knows that this can blow us away more than if he used someone we don’t know. If it happened to Jesus, why should we be surprised when it happens to us?’
When a minister leads an individual in a prayer such as in option 2, there is an effect upon the individual. This is because the person is rejecting lies and coming into agreement with the truth. This isn’t because the secret magical words are sprinkling freedom dust on the client and releasing them from a generational curse that God visited upon them. Nope.
Coming into agreement with the truth and renouncing lies is powerful enough to set you free. But God isn’t cursing anyone nowadays, and nobody is under a generational curse visited upon them from God the Father as in the Old Testament.
If we already got it… why isn’t it working…. If I’m doing everything I know to do and yet the healing isn’t happening, money isn’t coming in, etc.
Jesus wasn’t happy with the disciples that they couldn’t handle the healing the boy.
He wasn’t happy with the inability to meet the need.
